Businessman Extraordinaire, Raj Fernando
Raj Fernando is the founder and CEO of Scoutahead, and Fernando has made his name in the business world this way. Before he began work at Scoutahead, he was the CEO of Chopper Trading.
Fernando got his start early, in college. He began volunteering at the Chicago Mercantile Exchange, and later he worked his way up to positions with the Chicago Board of Trade, culminating in his founding of Chopper Trading in 2002.
Chopper Trading quickly grew, under Fernando’s excellent leadership. He had over 250 employees, and trades were happening in many markets, including Nasdaq, CME, ICE, LSE, Cantor Fitzgerald-espeed, Eurex, and ICAP-Broketek.
Raj Fernando also became involved in the US Commodity Trading Futures Commission, and in 2010, he spoke as a panelist with this commission, talking about disruptive trading practices as a way to encourage dialogue about trading.
In 2015, Chopper Trading was sold by Fernando, and then, in 2016, he founded the company Scoutahead, which is a start-up that works with advanced, secure communication systems, in an effort to improve productivity in the workplace.
Fernando, who lives in Chicago, in also involved in philanthropy there and supports many causes both locally and nationally. He serves with the board of trustees at the Chicago Symphony, and also for PAWS, a no-kill shelter for animals.
Fernando is also on the board with American Security Project, and in 2011, he was appointed to sit on the International Security Advisory Board. He had to step down because of international market volatility, though.
